Finals Week

I wish everyone the best on their finals!

I'm pretty sure everyone knows how dreadful finals week in college is, whether you're in college or not. The amount of stress students go through during finals week is indescribable. Some students may have as many as three finals in one day! Late nights are spent studying instead of sleeping. Coffee or any beverages with caffeine in it are your best friend. Snacks, snacks, and more snacks! That pretty much sums up college finals week.

At my university, we are given a "reading day" the day before finals officially begin in the fall semester. This day is to be used for studying and reviewing material for our finals. Unfortunately, we aren't given this extra day during the spring semester, which only adds to the stress. But when we do have that extra day, we don't have to rush and cram everything in as much, if we're able to focus. The library is open for 24 hours until finals are finished and most students spend the night there.

Overall, stress is in the air until finals are officially over. However, there are plenty of ways to decrease the amount of stress you experience during finals. Here are some methods to help:

Study little by little throughout the semester

As the semester goes on, I try to review previously learned material here and there so that I won't have to cram as much, if at all, right before finals. It really helps because not only do I have to cram less, but I have a better understanding of the material. It's also a relief knowing that you most likely won't forget the material if you study hard enough.

Breathe

Yes, I said it. Breathe. In the midst of all of the stress and chaos, take time to sit back and practice breathing. It could really change the rest of your day. Do it as many times as you need to. The point is for you to calm down, find peace, and take your mind off of everything you may be worrying about.

Go to the tutoring sessions

Go to any and every tutoring session available if you can. There, you can ask questions and get clarity about topics that you may struggle with. It's better to ask and not need to know the material than to not ask and need to know the material. The more prepared you are, the better.

Finals week is definitely stressful, but there are ways for you to reduce this stress. Don't wait until the night before your final to study, it'll only stress you out even more. I wish everyone the best on their finals and I hope everyone has a nice, relaxing winter break!

How do you prepare for finals?
