Syllabus Week

School is officially back in session folks!! We all know the first week is usually filled with lots of events that basically introduce the freshmen to the university. Nothing is usually due and everyone is trying to find their squad, unless you're a returning student and have your squad already lol.

Between the many activities hosted by various student campus organizations, the free food, free t-shirts, and multiple chances to meet new people, there is plenty to do. This is one of the times of the year when you're exposed to the most people and have numerous opportunities to socialize with new faces. Also, most professors generally spend the majority, or all, of the class time going over the syllabus so you don't actually have much work yet.

Most, if not all, of the black organizations on my school's campus hosted cookouts that I enjoyed very much. It started with the NAACP having a cookout, with the African Diaspora Club's cookout the next day. There was a football game, which the Black Student Union hosted, and my school's football team won! Before the game, my friends and I attended a tailgate where we enjoyed free food, music, and socializing.

Syllabus week at my school usually concludes with Labor Day weekend, nicknamed LaborStay weekend here. The Black Student Union held a pool party in the campus gym. Later that day, the Caribbean Student Association had a cookout named Bashment Party 2. LaborStay finished with a block party, which consisted of more free food, a live DJ, and a stroll expo with some of the sororities and fraternities. Needless to say, my syllabus week has been very exciting and eventful. But now it's time to buckle down and get to work!
