Natural Hair & School

https://therighthairstyles.com/shrinkage-in-natural-hair/

School will be starting back up shortly, it already has for some, and that means that schedules will be busier. If you have natural hair, you know that dealing with your hair alone takes up lots of time! So how can you balance time for your hair and time for everything else? Here are some options that I hope will be helpful to my fellow natural hair sistas!

Protective styling

This is probably the most obvious answer as many of those with natural hair automatically go to protective styles. Protective styling makes it so that there is little to no manipulation of your natural hair and this takes a load of work off. Although it's still important to take care of your hair under the protective style, you still don't have to do as much as you would if your natural hair was actually out.

Set aside specific days for washing and styling

Depending on how long your hair is, wash days can be dreadfully long or short and sweet. It also depends on all of the products that you put in your hair like deep conditioner, oils, cream, and leave-in conditioner. Let's say you designate Sundays for wash days, then you know to schedule on days other than Sundays so that you can give your hair attention that day. Planning ahead can save you a load of trouble down the road.

Rocking a certain style for at least a week

This is also an easy way for you to deal with your natural hair. Style it at the beginning of the week and rock that style throughout the week. Make sure to keep your hair moisturized and protected when you go to sleep. This method makes it so there is little to no manipulation of the hair. You can just take off your scarf/bonnet in the morning, moisturize your hair, and go!

I hope these suggestions help you in some way, especially if your schedule is about to get hectic. It's important to find balance to take care of ourselves in the midst of life's busyness.

How do you make time for/take care of your hair during the school year?

Embrace your Unique!
