Going natural seems to be a trend nowadays, however there's more to it than people may think. Between the time, money, and trial-and-errors on products, natural hair takes some work. If you are considering going natural, here are some things to keep in mind.

Time

Taking care of natural hair can be time consuming, especially as it starts to grow out. If you are a new natural, your time may be used figuring out which styles or products work best for your hair. Either way, you will spend lots of time with your hair so enjoy it!

Moisturizing

Everyone's hair is different; someone else's hair may stay moisturized longer than yours. It is important to get to know your natural hair so that you don't over moisturize or under moisturize it. Figure out which products moisturize your hair the most and develop a routine that works for you. You will see the benefits as your hair continues to grow out!

Money

As a naturalista, you have to be willing to spend some money. There will be times when you buy a product, but it doesn't work for your hair so you've basically wasted money. And please know that natural hair products are not cheap! That comes with getting to know your natural coils. Please prepare a budget for your hair beforehand because you will need it!! Thank me later.

Maintenance

Maintaining your hair may be more complicated than you think. While you shouldn't manipulate your hair too much, you should make sure to keep it moisturized, especially if you decide to color it. Your ends should get trimmed every so often so that you can get rid of dead ends and encourage growth. Don't over do it when it comes to your hair because that can be just as bad as neglecting it!

I encourage black girls everywhere to embrace their natural hair! It's a part of learning to love yourself fully and not being ashamed of the hair you grew yourself. It's not an easy journey but is any journey that easy?
